Overview
Mount Meru, a dormant stratovolcano situated in Arusha National Park, stands at an elevation of 4,566 meters (14,980 ft) and is located 70 kilometers (43 miles) west of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. The typical duration for a Mount Meru Climb is four days, although it is possible to complete the trek to the Summit in just 3 days.
The mountain is visible from Mount Kilimanjaro on a clear day and ranks as the fifth-highest mountain in Africa, depending on the definition used. Climbing Mount Meru, the second-highest mountain in Tanzania, offers a fantastic experience with minimal crowds and the opportunity to witness incredible wildlife as you hike past wild animals.

Full detailed Itinerary
Depart from your lodging at 8:00 AM and proceed to Momella gate for registration procedures. Begin your ascent through the verdant and picturesque forest, taking in the stunning natural scenery. Along the route, keep an eye out for wildlife such as zebras, giraffes, and antelopes. Follow the trail to Miriakamba hut where you will have dinner and rest for the night.

After enjoying a hearty breakfast, embark on a trek through the scenic Montana forest towards the saddle beneath Little Meru. Take a break at Saddle Hut to indulge in a delicious lunch and rejuvenate with a well-deserved rest. Make sure to adequately prepare yourself for the summit and stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.

Begin your ascent by waking up at 11:00 PM to gear up for climbing. Commence climbing at midnight, maintaining a slow and steady pace towards Rhino Point before continuing on to Cobra Point. Follow the trail all the way to Socialist Peak, where you will reach at sunrise. Take some time at the summit to relax and capture some photos. Descend to Saddle Hut for a mid-morning meal and a brief break. Finally, follow the trail to Miriakamba Hut for dinner and overnight stay.

Following an early morning meal, continue the journey downhill until reaching Momella gate by late morning. Head back to the accommodations in Arusha town. It is customary to give tips either at the final campsite or at a designated gate.
